Guinea has a diverse portfolio of mineral resources including bauxite, gold, graphite, diamonds and rare earths

IRON ORE:

The Simandou project will be the world’s largest new mine with the highest iron ore content and will add about 5% of the world’s marine iron ore reserves. The shareholders of Simandou have recently signed a $15 billion financing agreement for the iron ore project which will fund critical infrastructure such as railways and ports. Simandou will be showcased at SMG 2024, allowing interested parties to ask the project stakeholders how they can get involved in the supply chain.

BAUXITE PRODUCTION

Rose over 19% year-on-year in 2023 to about 123 million metric tons, while exports increased to 24.5% to 127 million tons in the same period. Guinea is the 2nd largest bauxite producer globally and 1st in terms of reserves. Advanced plans are afoot to satisfy the government’s wish to add value to their production through the construction of refineries in country. Bauxite ore is refined to make alumina used in aluminium products needed for the energy transition that has focused global attention and investment on critical metals in Africa

GUINEA PRODUCES 63.5 TONNES OF GOLD

Per annum, which should also dramatically increase with new mines coming on stream such as the Bankan in addition to the established mines such as Siguiri, Tri-K, Kouroussa, Lefa and Kiniero.

THE LOLA GRAPHITE PROJECTS

Is key to Guinea’s policy of promoting critical minerals projects it aims to develop a fully integrated source of battery anode material to supply the European lithium-ion and fuel cell market.
