AGENDA

The main topics of the event will centre around the Government’s priorities in the mining sector which includes:

  • The diversification of production through the processing of mining products on site to increase value chains.
  • The efficient collection of mining revenues to avoid transfer pricing and other tax optimizations which minimize State revenues from the sector.
  • Maximizing positive externalities particularly in terms of local content, close monitoring for compliance with ESG standards.
  • The necessary support, reforms and organization of artisanal mining, rehabilitation of mining sites in accordance with environmental and environmental codes.
  • Investment for geological and mining research, particularly on critical metals, essential for the energy transition.

We will also be following up on the conclusions and recommendation from the SMG 2022 edition which included:

  • Sustainable mining sector development requires sincere, frank, and sustained collaboration between the state and other actors.
  • All parties must be committed to respecting the conventions that bind them.
  • Appropriate and low-risk financing is needed for different types of projects in the Guinean context.
  • Biodiversity is a requirement that cannot be avoided when developing mines. To this end, social and environmental impact assessments must be carried out.
  • The construction of infrastructure is a prerequisite for the harmonious and balanced development of Guinea’s mineral deposits at a low cost. At this level, emphasis was placed on the mutualisation of the railway and the deep-water port for Simandou between Rio Tinto Simfer and Winning Consortium Simandou.
  • Management training must be adapted to new technologies for optimal development
